The latest episode of COS at Home welcomed a distinguished guest, Dr. Thomas Lindsay, a thought leader and distinguished fellow for Next Generation Texas at the Texas Public Policy Foundation.
The organization's work has focused on parental freedom and empowerment in choosing the best education for future generations. This principle underscores the growing conviction that parents are best equipped to make decisions regarding their children's education.
During the show, Dr. Lindsay passionately conveyed that freedom is not a given; it must be earned and re-earned by every generation. He stressed that we do ourselves a disservice by overlooking the essential role of education in this movement.
“Our democracy depends on education. Freedom is not a gift,” he reasoned.
Dr. Lindsay shed light on some significant legislative accomplishments of the Texas Public Policy Foundation. He pointed out their support for a bill passed in May that banned diversity, equity, and inclusion staff training in Texas public institutions. Furthermore, in 2021, they testified in favor of a bill that banned critical race theory and action civics from the Texas K-12 curriculum, demonstrating their deep commitment to education.
One of the key takeaways from the episode was Dr. Lindsay's fervent belief in state-led initiatives as a vehicle for constitutional change. His commitment to this belief was exemplified by his recent service as a commissioner at the Simulated Article V Convention held in August, showcasing his dedication to this crucial constitutional mechanism.
“I realized that this may well be what Lincoln called the last best hope. This is a constitutional means of restricting the power. It's the only constitutional means left,” he declared.
He explained the story of George Mason, who questioned why anyone should expect Congress to propose amendments to limit the very power that it may one day abuse.
“And so they added the second method from the States,” he said. “Thanks to George Mason, we have a constitutional means to do this.”
We have the constitutional means and the grassroots power, and you can help us grow our nationwide effort by adding your name to the petition below.
