DOJ releases Trump raid affidavit, half of entire document blacked out

Published in Blog on August 26, 2022 by Brianna Kraemer

A federal judge unsealed the affidavit used to raid former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago property on Friday afternoon, except half of the entire document was blacked out.

Outcry and anger from the public sparked the Department of Justice to surrender the affidavit used to raid Trump's Mar-a-Lago property. The DOJ's redactions were first approved by U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart before it was made public.

Out of the 38-page document, 22 pages were significantly or completely blacked out. See the entire affidavit here.

One key point of the document attempts to justify the raid by saying the FBI had "probable cause to believe" records containing classified information were stored at Trump's home.

"[A] preliminary review of the FIFTEEN BOXES indicated that they contained “newspapers, magazines, printed news articles, photos, miscellaneous print-outs, notes, presidential correspondence, personal and post- presidential records, and ‘a lot of classified records.’ Of most significant concern was that highly classified records were unfoldered, intermixed with other records, and otherwise unproperly [sic] identified.""

In essence, the raid was conducted because documents were not in order. The federal government apparently doesn't consider first requesting, ordering or warning a citizen first before imposing unannounced – let alone a former president despised by the Deep State.

As soon as the affidavit was released Friday, the website PACER, where the document was originally accessed from, crashed as a result of huge demand.

The failed attempt to calm public outcry yet again leaves Americans wondering if our government will ever operate with honesty, integrity and accountability.

In a clear display of unaccountability, the DOJ was sure to black out the name of the special agent who wrote the affidavit, on both the first page and the signature at the conclusion of the letter.

Convention of States seeks to restore a sense of trust in our nation by putting checks in place to give power back to the states and the people.

While working for term limits and restraints to the government's size, COS is also actively working to EndTheFBI. Your help is essential to both patriotic, freedom-bound missions.

"The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse." – James Madison

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
