Confidence in the federal government is falling among Republicans and Democrats alike. As Convention of States Action president Mark Meckler pointed out in a recent Newsmax editorial, Americans from both parties are rejecting establishment Washington politicians in favor of leaders like Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Now a new poll from Convention of States Action and The Trafalgar Group—one of America’s most accurate pollsters in 2016, 2018 and 2020—is showing that voters' lack of confidence extends to the health officials in D.C. as well.
“Since the beginning, Dr. Anthony Fauci has served as the face of, and has set the tone for, Washington’s response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. His numerous contradictions, admitted lies, and opinion-driven directives rather than science-driven guidance has impacted the way voters view him and the federal government’s response overall. Further, new evidence emerging about Fauci’s potential funding of gain of function research in China is having an impact,” Meckler said. “In contrast, the public sees common sense leadership from a number of governors around the country and evidence is piling up as to who was right and who was wrong. Voters are wisely deciding for themselves and ignoring DC.”
Confidence in Dr. Fauci, for example, has decreased among Americans from all parties:
- 42.2% of all voters say confidence in Dr. Fauci has decreased
- 66.1% of Republicans say confidence in Dr. Fauci has decreased
- 41.7% of Independents say confidence in Dr. Fauci has decreased
- 20% of Democrats say confidence in Dr. Fauci has decreased
Dr. Fauci isn't the only official who has lost the trust of the American people. Only small majorities of Americans are looking to the Centers for Disease Control to tell them when the pandemic is over.
A paltry 26.4% of voters say they're relying on the CDC/federal government to tell them when the pandemic is over. Over 25% say the pandemic is already over (contrary to what the CDC says), and 11.1% say they never took COVID seriously in the first place.
Clearly, We the People aren't interested in what the federal government has to say about the pandemic. Americans are looking to their friends, family, neighbors, and community to solve their most pressing problems, and they're working to take back their right to self-governance after a year of top-down, heavy-handed orders.
That's why over five million patriots have voiced their support for an Article V Convention of States. A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments that limit federal authority and spending, and mandate term limits for federal officials. With this complete package of amendments in place, Washington will be limited to a narrow set of topics and everything else will be left to the people and the states.
