COS Virginia volunteer interviewed at Independence Day Parade

Published in Blog on July 25, 2024 by Laurie Wheeler

The Northern Virginia team of volunteers for COS Virginia again paraded down historic Fairfax, Virginia, with all the swag and regalia of self-governance.

Several team members braved the sweltering heat to give the crowd a visual of patriotic common sense:

  • Term Limits
  • Fiscal Responsibility
  • End federal overreach

Many thanks to District Captain Robert Neatrour who faithfully organized local volunteers to march down Main Street on our country's birthday.

Effectively all the swag and flag waving caught the eye of a Washington, D.C. news reporter, who approached one of the volunteers, Warren Wheeler, for an interview.

When asked his thoughts on bipartisan issues, Wheeler replied: Convention of States is a non-partisan organization addressing the bipartisanship in Washington, D.C

Both sides of the political aisle are responsible for the massive debt of $34 trillion, crippling future generations.

Seeking drama, the reporter kept pressing Wheeler on the various political hot topics of the day, including how he's going to vote in the upcoming election.

At that moment Wheeler removed his COS hat, so as not to conflict with his personal stance.

He announced that he's voting for the one who will best support his values.

None of the video nor sound clips were shown on the air.

Meanwhile Virginia has over 81,000 COS supporters, standing firmly behind the values of limited government.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
