Brand new Convention of States Virginia District Captain Randy LaFollette creatively organized a successful informational breakfast chat in Abingdon last February with COS Tennessee State Director Lyle Hill as the keynote speaker.
While planning the event, LaFollette’s curiosity led him to seek out the top petition collector for Convention of States which happened to be Anthony Irvine of Tennessee.
LaFollette called Irvine, who mentioned that he and the COS Tennessee State Director lived near the Virginia border. Being about an hour away from the planned breakfast, the Tennesseans proved to be true to their state’s nickname.
On February 20 they drove together from the Volunteer State to the Old Dominion for the Abingdon breakfast chat.
About 18 self-governing Americans attended this informational talk, where attendees learned how a Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments.
These amendments can limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government.
The speakers included several COS volunteers from both Tennessee and Virginia:
- COS Tennessee State Director Lyle Hill
- COS Tennessee District Captain Anthony Irvine (HD-3)
- COS Virginia District Captain Randy LaFollette (HD-5)
- COS Virginia District Captain Bob Beard (HD 12)
Their enthusiasm proved infectious as one of the attendees was inspired to become a new district captain for Virginia.
You, too, can become a District Captain, today!
