Convention of States is needed now

Published in Blog on February 04, 2021 by Brent Smith

Before discussing the topic of Convention of States, it is important for us to see where we are at in the evolution of our political travels as a nation with respect to history.

We now have a political class that is openly promoting the destructive Marxist subversion of American society.

When you examine closely the genesis of totalitarian and Communist empires such as the Chinese Communist Party, the Soviet Union, North Korea, North Vietnam, and Nazi Germany, you find stark similarities.

These movements began by revolutionaries preaching sermons designed to foment rebellion and anarchy.

Opponents of these Marxist movements were vilified and dehumanized through strategic, well-coordinated disinformation campaigns. The Third Reich’s atrocious propaganda techniques were emulated by the Communist movements that followed, each promoting their respective "Big Lies" until the masses surrendered their collective rationality to the brainwashing.

Aided by the persistent drumbeat of hatred and division, the revolutionary movements steadily advanced, moving with a dogged persistence. The populace was shocked at first, raising their clenched fists in protests.

But as time went on, their indignation waned. Their protesting shouts were drowned by the mob, and they were subjected to group humiliation until they ceased objecting altogether, as the revolutionary rabble grew into an army.

Eventually, even the most ardent opponents began tapping their toes to the same beat of the drum. And the loathsome history that has yet to be rewritten shows us that the millions who chose not to march to that demoniac drumbeat met their demise in a gas chamber or gulags.

Historians familiar with this pattern cannot help but see the similarities with what is happening in America today—yes, today.

American citizens are being doxed, de-platformed, and even losing their jobs because of their political views. Supporters of President Trump have even been put on a "list" for future targeting. This has been done openly, voiced by vitriolic mainstream media pundits in full view of the world.

Today, America’s mainstream media has ceased providing real news, pushing left-wing propaganda and demonizing their opponents with hate-filled rhetoric.

Biden’s new anti-terrorism push specifically targets “objections to the exercise of governmental authority.”

This vague description promises to give the DOJ broad interpretation to exact revenge against those they deem to be a threat.

The D.C. political class has become adept at using the bureaucracy against their opponents. Obama used the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau to shake down banks, funneling millions of dollars in fines to the Democratic Party. He also used the IRS to target the Tea Party and the FBI to spy on the Trump Campaign.

More recently, the DOJ actively targeted Trump supporters: Roger Stone, George Papadopoulos, Michael Flynn, et al.

Meanwhile, Congress doesn’t put up any real resistance to the growing tyranny, looking the other way while bureaucrats get off scot-free for their complicit participation in the most malicious political scandal in American history, (e.g. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and every FBI, CIA, DOJ operative and Congressmen involved in Crossfire Hurricane).

Washington is irreparably broken. When you look through the haze of politics at the national level, what you find is not just ugly. It is the disgusting image of our D.C. politicians, Big Media, Big Tech, and the CCP, roiling together on a bed piled high with U.S. taxpayer dollars.

Washington, D.C., has become the biggest cash-cow the world has ever seen, with the U.S. taxpayers providing the milk that feeds the insatiable appetite of Congress and the Deep State. Our nation’s capital has become the world’s Capital of Bribery, a place where career politicians get filthy rich.

In essence, what they have going is a giant Ponzi scheme where inflated budgets filled with pork are passed each year. Much of the money is funneled right back to Washington, which politicians use to keep themselves in power and kick the can down the road.

The next generation will be forced to deal with the inevitable financial catastrophe caused by their avaricious betrayal of the American people. D.C. politicians are chin-deep in corruption. So why do none of them get busted, put in jail, or lose office?

It's time to repair the broken engine of Washington, D.C., and give it a complete overhaul. It is time for a Convention of States.

What is a Convention of States? In a nutshell, it's a process included in Article V of the Constitution to stop a runaway Congress that is drunk on power and no longer listens to We the People.

Why do we need a Convention of States right now? Even though each year Congress pays lip service to term limits, they will never voluntarily relinquish their power.

Simply stated, too many of them are drunk on power and cash. A term limits amendment is the only way to force our congressmen and congresswomen to keep them responsive to their respective constituents: We the People.

It’s really very simple. We must end the reign of the career politicians.

How does it happen? At least 34 states must agree to a meeting. Once this happens, amendment ideas are discussed and voted on. Once approved, these amendments are sent to all the states for their vote of ratification. If three-fourths approve, it becomes law.

Please support the Convention of States and urge your state representatives to do the same. Many states have already jumped on board.

It is up to us to fix Washington. We can bring about this change through a constitutional process.

If we don’t do it now, tomorrow may be too late.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
