On February 25, 2025, the Convention of States Illinois team gathered at our capitol building in Springfield for our 2025 Citizen Action Day, also known as "Surge Day". This group of 30 grassroots activists had a great time meeting with legislators, hearing from various speakers, and delivering material to all 177 state legislators.
The day started off with a talk delivered by Rep. Brad Halbrook, who recently filed House Joint Resolution 0015, the COS uniform resolution. Good news: immediately after the Surge was completed, our first Democratic co-sponsor, Rep. Anthony DeLuca, signed on to the resolution as chief co-sponsor.
The day concluded with wrap-up remarks from Senate Minority leader John Curran and Sen. Neil Anderson, the latter of whom will be filing our resolution in the State Senate this month.
For next year's Surge Day, the team envisions renting out the Rotunda and featuring a marquee speaker. With 58 district captains and over 400 volunteer positions filled, the team expects to expand its lead as the largest COS team in the country.
