COS endorser Mann votes to limit spending, curtail overreach

Published in Blog on July 29, 2024 by Matt May

COS endorser and U.S. representative from Kansas Tracey Mann recently voted in favor of a bill in the House that reduces federal spending, eliminates federal regulations, and promotes American energy independence according to a July 25 press release

The press release states that Rep. Mann cast a favorable vote for H.R. 8998, also known as the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for 2025.

Among its provisions, the act prohibits the Environmental Protection Agency from assessing methane fees on gas and oil producers, resumes quarterly gas and oil lease sales, and limits abuses against the Endangered Species Act.

"I have continuously urged Congress to pass funding bills that reduce our federal spending while putting dollars in places where taxpayers can see a higher return on them.” said Rep. Mann in a statement.

“This legislation unleashes American energy production while rolling back burdensome regulations like the Biden-Harris Administration’s Lesser Prairie-Chicken rule that ignores science and handcuffs hardworking Kansans. It also includes funding for improvements and infrastructure repairs at tribal colleges like Haskell Indian Nations University that have long been overlooked by the federal government."

Referring to the district he represents, Rep. Mann concluded "This bill is a win for the Big First, and I am proud to support its passage."

H.R. 8998 passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 210-205, and moves to the Senate for consideration.

Rep. Mann's vote is totally consistent with the strong stance that he took when publicly announcing his support for COS and for calling an Article V convention to limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government:

"I join former president Eisenhower, my friend, the late Senator Tom Coburn, and thousands of Kansans in the effort to use Article V as a solution to fight the slide toward centralization and concentration of power in Washington.

"I fully endorse," he continued, "the Convention of States effort that would propose more fiscal restraints on Washington, term limits on federal officials, and reduce the power of the federal government."

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
