Several Convention of States Action national staff members will be capitalizing on a golden opportunity this week to engage with state legislators and state legislative staff members from all over the country during the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Legislative Summit.
The summit takes place August 5-7 at the Kentucky International Convention Center in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, and is advertised as the nation’s largest gathering of its kind.
COS leaders including Mark and Patty Meckler, Michael Farris, Rita Peters, Rick Santorum, and Nicole Rardin will be among those meeting with the state legislators and staff who can make the difference for advancing support for an Article V convention in their state legislatures.
The COS exhibit at the convention center will feature a dynamic, eye-catching booth designed by COS staffers specifically to create a relaxed atmosphere in which the merits and nonpartisan appeal of calling an Article V convention can be thoughtfully and thoroughly discussed with state legislators and staffers. The event will offer a great opportunity to educate legislators and staff members and reinforce or gain new support.
"All Americans, regardless of party affiliation, would benefit from a convention of states to put the federal government back in its box," said Peters, COSA senior vice president for legislative affairs.
"We look forward to meeting with legislators from both parties," she added, "to answer questions and discussing this non-partisan solution to our nation's non-partisan problem -- a runaway federal government."
In addition to spreading the word about our grassroots movement in the exhibition booth, COSA is hosting a Learning Hub event on August 6.
The NCSL was organized in 1975. According to its website, the NCSL serves legislators and legislative staff by providing access to training resources, technical support, and public policy research that is collected and analyzed in a bipartisan fashion.
The organization “also represents legislatures in dealing with the federal government, especially in support of state sovereignty and state flexibility and protection from unfunded federal mandates and unwarranted federal preemption. The conference promotes cooperation between state legislatures in the U.S. and those in other countries.”
