Brookfield, Wisconsin — In a remarkable gathering last week, Convention of States activists from multiple states convened in the Midwest for a three-day “Flyover" Regional strategy summit. Comprising Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin, the Flyover Region is led by Regional Director (RD) Catherine Zemanek and multiple state directors, all of whom were in attendance. Additionally, the meeting was well attended by State Grassroots Coordinators, Regional Captains, District Captains, State Communications Coordinators, Legislative Liaisons, State Information Analysts, and other COS activists. Wisconsin State Senator and staunch COS Sponsor Dan Knodl also joined the team.
Over the course of this eventful weekend, the state teams focused on promoting grassroots engagement and legislative strategies, networking, and boosting regional relations. They also honored team members for many outstanding accomplishments, awarding 29 TelePatriot Pins, 14 Patriot Pins, and a Challenge Coin to Wisconsin State Director Art Binhack. Of the only 300 Challenge Coins minted in 2016, Art received one of less than ten now remaining.
Spanning the topics of Communications/Marketing, Recruitment/Retention/Training of the grassroots, COS Presentations, and Grassroots Guidelines, these strategy summits, held in multiple regions across the country, represent the grassroots army’s commitment to spreading the word about COS. Always developing new ways to educate the public about COS and champion our Article V resolution in the state legislatures, our trained political operatives use these meetings to share their best ideas with other states.
The 2023 Flyover Regional Summit also represented the grassroots’ commitment to relationships. From gathering around the hotel fire pit for fellowship to enjoying a taco bar with team members’ families to taking a ride on a local streetcar, The Hop, singing patriotic songs, attendees made the most of the weekend to fortify strong relationships within the region.
Ultimately, as the event concluded Saturday with state teams already planning their strategies for the upcoming legislative year, the Flyover Region is looking forward to 2024 and thrilled to watch all that the grassroots army will accomplish.
