Convention of States patriots are winning elections from New Jersey to Texas

Published in Blog on January 25, 2022 by Article V Patriot

We often say that Convention of States patriots are the best, most effective grassroots activists in the nation.

They've successfully passed the Convention of States Resolution in 15 states, and they've built robust teams in all 50 states, some of which are tens of thousands of patriots strong.

But some are taking the next step. Below is a rundown of all the Convention of States volunteers who have secured a local or state elected position. These amazing men and women took what they learned at Convention of States and applied it to their campaigns, and now they're bringing a freedom-loving, self-governing attitude to elected offices around the country!

  • In Virginia, COS District Captain Karen Greenhalgh won a race against an incumbent candidate for a seat in Virginia's House of Delegates. Thanks to the advocacy of other Convention of States Volunteers, Greenhalgh won her race by 147 votes! Click here to read the full story.
  • In Texas, State Director Shelby Williams won a seat on the Plano City Council in 2019. Initially faced with two opponents, Shelby gained enough grassroots support to prevent the well-known incumbent from garnering the 50% of votes required to win outright in the May 4th election, thereby triggering a run-off election. Though ending 2.5 points behind on May 4th, in the final June 8th vote, Shelby pulled ahead to a 53-47% victory. Click here to read the full story.
  • In Ohio, Mike Carey won a seat in Ohio's 15th Congressional District on Nov 4, 2021, replacing resigned Rep. Steve Stivers. Mike signed the COS petition at the Madison County, Ohio county fair in July 2021.
  • In Wisconsin, former COS State Director Tom Peters was elected to the County Board in Brown County.

In Minnesota, John Heinrich won his election thanks in large part to Convention of States volunteers. In 2018, Heinrich faced four challengers in the primary, two of whom were against a Convention of States and two of whom were noncommittal.

Despite facing long odds, a group of COS supporters (also veterans, like Heinrich) quickly coalesced broad support behind Heinrich, and he went on to win the primary.

Then, he defeated his anti-COS opponent in the general election. He has since won re-election in 2020.

As you can see, Convention of States grassroots patriots are a force to be reckoned with!

If you'd like to get into local politics, joining your local Convention of States team is a great way to start. You'll learn the ins and outs of grassroots lobbying at the state level, have access to some of the best training resources in the country, and get connected with the most active and like-minded patriots in your community.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
