Convention of States Illinois meets for a time of training and celebration

Published in Blog on July 22, 2020 by Margaret Marcus

The Convention of States Illinois leadership team got together on July 18 for training as well as to celebrate their continued success during this challenging time.

Many of these leaders spent many hours traveling in order to meet, share experiences with each other, and learn more about COS from Regional Director Monica Sellers and State Director David Winters.

This team has a lot to celebrate, since they are growing at a rapid pace and have shown a focus on building a grassroots army that is gaining national recognition.

Additionally, State Information Analyst Martha (Marty) Brenner was honored with the coveted COS Challenge Coin. This award is limited to 300 and is reserved for those who have shown exceptional work for COS. The Illinois team agrees that they made a wise choice to add Marty to that group.

Marty has used her technology skills to learn the COS system and achieved the expert level of training. She is an indispensable resource for the Illinois leadership team with her tech training skills and her willingness to answer every question and resolve every problem brought to her.

Beyond that Marty has also jumped in and taken on District Captain duties, working on the state Follow Up Team. Congratulations, Marty! The Illinois team is thankful that the national organization recognizes what we already know: you are an exceptional patriot.

The Illinois team has accepted a challenge to continue growing this leadership team, so we expect great things from this group or patriots. Don't be surprised if Illinois is the first blue state to pass the resolution!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
