Three Convention of States endorsers -- Texas Representative Chip Roy, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, and Kentucky Senator Rand Paul -- all signed a letter this week calling to defund the federal government if it continues to pursue tyrannical vaccine mandates.
“After February 18, 2022, government funding will expire and congressional Republicans must once again decide whether they will vote to fund a federal government that is enforcing tyrannical COVID-19 vaccine mandates on the American people,” the letter reads.
Some might assume that after the Supreme Court voted down President Biden's emergency OSHA mandate, the threat of federal mandates is over. Unfortunately, that's not true.
While OSHA has backed off it's emergency order, it's still pursuing a permanent vaccine mandate. The new rule has yet to be released, but it will likely target businesses with fines and penalties for refusing to vaccinate their workers.
There are also still several federal vaccine mandates still in effect.
“Currently, medical workers, men and women in uniform, federal employees, and federal contractors face termination if they do not receive a COVID-19 vaccine – even though evidence shows these vaccines do not prevent the spread of the virus,” the letter reads.
Now, two senators and over a dozen House members are calling on GOP leadership to refuse support for the next round of budget deals until the president revokes those mandates.
It's good to see that at least some of our representatives in Washington still care about federal overreach. But as Rep. Roy and Sens. Johnson and Paul understand, the permanent solution won't come from D.C.
Only an Article V Convention of States has the power to end the threat of federal tyranny permanently. That's because only a Convention of States can reverse the last 100 years of bad Supreme Court decisions that have given the federal government the power to impose these mandates in the first place.
These Court decisions have empowered Washington far beyond the Founders' intention. If we want to truly and permanently limit federal power, we must look to the people, the states, and a Convention of States.
An Article V Convention of States has the power to propose constitutional amendments that limit federal power. These amendments can clarify Washington's limited role in domestic affairs and leave all other issues -- like healthcare! -- solely up to the states.
