Colorado's COS Agenda From Now Until May 2023

Published in Blog on November 10, 2022 by Vivian Garcia

Back in August, I wrote my first blog for Convention of States. It’s pretty basic but it’s hopeful. I connect that message with this one because I still believe strongly that we are baited and hooked by the political machine and the media to believe that our salvation is rooted in government. They believe that our hope lives and dies with elections and political appointments. It’s a lie.

I’ve been so grateful to find when committing to be a volunteer for COS that there are so many believers in the power and authority of Jesus Christ. The religious practices and denominations might differ but hope in Christ is the defining purpose in life.

We support freedom of religion so although not a requirement, COS attracts people who don’t see the government as their salvation for their families and communities.

How we define the government is as a body of people in service to our nation who are accountable to the citizens of the United States.

This is a message to all Convention of States supporters and volunteers to get ready because right now is our launching date to make our presence known to our state legislators.

How are we going to lead our state officials?

We are going to write handwritten letters to our state senators and state representatives in our districts who will be serving in 2023. With kindness and leadership, we’re going to congratulate them for their appointment to the seat. We are going to let them know that as volunteers for Convention of States, they’re going to get to know us.

We’re going to develop a relationship with our state senators and representatives. Regardless of their political affiliation, they will know Convention of States. They’ll know we intend to be peaceful and kind. They’ll know that we’re here to support HJR22-1021, our Colorado resolution for a Convention of States that focuses on three topics: term limits, fiscal responsibility and limits on the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.

These three subject areas are intended for the states to hold the federal government accountable. That’s what the power of the states is for.

How do we act on our authority? Through activism. We put our representatives on notice that we are here and we’re here until our resolution gets passed by both chambers.

Each one of us has only one state senator and one state representative so you’re only focusing on two people in the coming months. If you’re close to the capital, you’ll show up with us. Our first visit to the State Capitol will be on January 9th, 2023, which is day one when the new Congress convenes.

We need 18 senators and 33 representatives to pass our resolution. Because it’s a resolution and not a bill, a governor’s signature is not required. Our goal is that every single senator and representative in the state knows that Convention of States is present, involved and relentless.

If you live too far from the State Capitol, then you will get involved in organizing calls and letters campaigns in your districts to regularly and clearly notify your reps weekly that they need to support HJR22-1021 and why you support it.

It doesn’t matter if they reject us. We will regularly put them on notice of our intentions to pass this resolution.

Use the Colorado legislative government website to learn what your representatives are sponsoring.

We cannot take a pass. We cannot relinquish our authority and voice in our state. We cannot allow the federal government to exercise authority over the people of the United States without accountability.

Go to our website and volunteer. Your presence is powerful.
