The American taxpayers footed the bill to keep a Chinese propaganda firm afloat through a COVID-19 aid loan valued between $150,000 and $350,000, according to a blockbuster report from the Daily Caller.
The American consulting firm, BLJ Worldwide, has deep ties to the Chinese Communist Party and handles the propaganda for the Chinese Embassy in the U.S.
BLJ Worldwide is on the payroll of both the Chinese Embassy and the China-U.S. Exchange Foundation (CUSEF). The CUSEF is headed by Tung Chee Hwa, who is the vice chairman for a top advisory group to the Chinese government.
As part of its propaganda efforts, BLJ Worldwide has spread misinformation about China's role in beginning the COVID-19 pandemic and about the Hong Kong protesters.
In a Facebook post on May 5, the embassy (via BLJ) claimed that it has showed “transparency every step of the way” during the coronavirus pandemic.
“#China has shared information on the disease with the international community timely and worked with other countries in the fight against the #coronavirus,” the post reads.
On Nov. 14, 2019, the embassy account accused demonstrators in Hong Kong of “ruining their homeland.”
“Their actions are on the brink of terrorism,” the post reads.
In a post on Nov. 19, 2019, the embassy called the Hong Kong demonstrations “a revolution started by a bunch of hot heads who do not understand the cost, pain and goal of a revolution.”
This is the worst kind of waste and incompetence on the part of the federal government. Not only does this throw away the hard-earned tax dollars of the American people, it aids and abets foreign enemies of the United States.
The money BLJ Worldwide received is just a drop in the bucket of the federal deficit and debt. But this story represents a much larger problem in Washington, D.C.: our federal officials don't care enough about how they spend our money.
They constantly waste it on useless, unnecessary, and in this case, dangerous programs and initiatives. COVID-19 aid may be a good use of taxpayer dollars, but as we've noted previously, there wasn't enough oversight on where our money goes.
We need to force Congress to pay attention to how our money is spent. We need to compel them to spend our money wisely and in our best interests. They won't do it on their own, but we can make them with an Article V Convention of States.
A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states. It has the power to propose constitutional amendments that mandate that Congress be more careful with our money. These amendments can require a balanced budget amendment, cap spending, and limit taxation. They can force Congress to account for how their bureaucracies spend our money, and impose penalties for the improper use of taxpayer funds.
Washington, D.C., won't change on its own. The last century should be proof enough of that. It will only change when We the People force it to change, and we can do it with an Article V Convention of States.
