The federal government has been three steps behind every step of this pandemic.
When COVID-19 first hit American shores, the CDC refused to approve the tests that could have kept transmission from spreading so rapidly. Dr. Anthony Fauci initially discouraged Americans from wearing masks until he switched his stance only a few weeks later. The Biden administration has tried to force millions of Americans to get vaccinated even while refusing to let these vaccinated Americans live normal lives.
Now, as even governors of deep blue states are starting to lift mask mandates, the Centers for Disease Control released this insanely deceiving graphic:
Masks prevent COVID infection, according to this study? Wrong.
As Doug Badger explains over at the Daily Signal, the survey on which this graphic is based is so flawed that it's impossible to draw any conclusions.
First, notice the asterisk beside the cloth masks. It says "not statistically significant." In other words, the reduction in infection for cloth masks was so small even the CDC admits that the data don't tell us anything.
In fact, the study itself reports that wearing a cloth mask may make you 17% more likely to test positive than wearing no mask at all.
As for surgical and N-95 masks, the margin of error was so large that the study was inconclusive.
Similarly, while the poster leads you to believe that N95/KN95 masks are more protective than surgical masks, which are more protective than cloth masks, the confidence intervals for all three masks overlap. That renders the comparison among mask types inconclusive.
Nor does the study present a conclusive case for the value of wearing any sort of mask.
This poster is nothing less than propaganda from the federal government. It tries to intentionally mislead Americans into believing that masks prevent the spread of COVID-19, and it comes from our nation's most powerful health agency.
It's time to take the federal government down a notch. The COVID pandemic has convinced the national health establishment that they're all-powerful, but they aren't. We the People are still in charge, and our most powerful tool lies in Article V of the Constitution.
Article V allows the states to call a Convention of States to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can shrink the size, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government, including that of federal agencies. These amendments can limit the size and power of some agencies and eliminate others altogether.
