The Convention of States Florida team was recently invited to have a speaker at the Tampa Trump Club meeting in Clearwater to introduce Convention of States to the membership.
The club held its first 2021 meeting at Mugs Sports bar in Clearwater and about a hundred people attended.
The whole theme of the meeting was "What Comes Next?" Of course, the answer is Convention of States! We have the answer that is as big as the problem. Our mission is to grow the largest army of engaged citizens ever.
Dennis Darragh (COS Regional Captain for Central Florida from the Atlantic to the Gulf) spoke at length for this meeting. He also holds a monthly video meeting for the region and is planning on getting the team to host an informational table at the fair.
Dennis has given presentations at three other meetings of this club for Convention of States in the past, and he has always generated support. This was no different, and they gave him three times more speaking time than usual!
A strong support group was present, including our State Grassroots Coordinator Brenda Karlin, along with her husband Ron. District Leadership Team HD69 member Jean Marie Thrower was also there, along with our new Legislative Liaison Mark Swanson, new District Captain Debra Millard, and volunteers Daryl Dewoskin and Dean.
There were a dozen different speakers, and the meeting stretched from 6:15 to almost 9:00. It included elections for their officers and an auction to fund a children's charity. They raised over a thousand dollars!
Speakers included James Stratton (President Tampa Trump Club), Penny lee Todd (Florida Sherriffs Youth Ranch), Kelly Ross-Eckerd (Connect Kids), Socrates Charos (who spoke on socialism and Marxism in Greece), Cliff Gephart (Conservative Grounds), Jeff Hawks (Community Patriots), Dawn Simmons (Trump Squad), Cathi Chamberlain (Defend Florida), Yvette Gaugh (Make Americans Free Again), and Johnny Carroll (Florida Republican Liberty Caucus).
A quote from his talk:
"Article V of the Constitution is what gives Congress the right to make amendments to the Constitution. Our Founding Fathers, at the last minute--driven by George Mason--penned the clause “or ⅔ of the several states, shall call a Convention of States for proposing amendments.” This was a last minute clause with the intent for the people to protect the republic."
We left the meeting with 17 new petition signers, connected with people from our group, and shared our message with the over 125 people there.
Please share this story and others. Invite friends and others to sign the petition. If you want to do more than just vote, join the team as a volunteer or choose a role under Take Action.
