Virginia is one of only four states electing state legislators in 2023.
Statewide party primaries will be held on 20 June, early voting begins in September, and election day is just eight months away (7 November).
By then, Virginia voters will have selected all 140 state legislators (40 Senators and 100 lower house Delegates).
This year’s elections are the first since all 140 districts were redrawn in 2021.
Amidst merging and diverging boundaries, some new districts will feature same-party incumbents pitted against one another.
In others, once “safe seats” are now more competitive for challengers from different parties.
With upheaval comes opportunity. Whether longtime politicians or brand-new faces, candidates are looking for ways to appeal to new voters.
To gain support from our voters, candidates must take a stand on COS.
That is the purpose behind a candidate survey we are promoting: will the candidate take a stand? If elected, will he or she support the COS resolution in the next legislative session of the General Assembly?
Our goal is to inform voters about all candidates, regardless of their party affiliation or political ideology. You can help us!
- Check to determine your new districts, both state Senate and House of Delegates.
- Find out who is running in your districts here.
- Check if those running in your districts have filled out our candidate survey. (Most candidates have not.)
- If not, contact the campaign and ask that the candidate fill it out by sending an email to: cossurveyed@cosaction.com
