Big-government, one-size-fits-all policies don't work. They often don't help the people they're intended to help, and they hurt others that lawmakers never expect.
Dean Aleinschmit is a great example. Dean runs a farm and agriculture diesel repair business, but his successful business was thrown into disarray after Washington handed down Obamacare.
"Before Obamacare, I was successful as an independent entrepreneur. Now, it's forced most people to either get five more employees or to under," he told a Nebraska legislative committee. "It's taken away mom and pop businesses. If you drive around, there are a lot of places that are closed because the cash flow does not fit the tax bracket."
The solution? A Convention of States.
"We need to do this to rein in politicians as a whole across the United States," he said.
A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can rein in big-government policies by limiting the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government.
Amendments can be written, for example, that prohibit Congress from spending money on any topic not expressly mentioned in the Constitution. Since healthcare is nowhere in our founding document, that topic would be off-limits for federal control.
