Billions in coronavirus relief lost

Published in Blog on February 21, 2021 by Trevor Thomas Swanson

One of the main goals of the Convention of States Project is to limit improper or imprudent federal spending.

I can hardly begin to express my frustration with the responses we have endured regarding the coronavirus outbreak.

Whether you needed it or not, whether it was enough or too little, the government printed money and practically started firing it out over the country in t-shirt cannons, hoping for the best. And then they took twice as much for themselves.

Just ask yourself, what would constitute too much wasted, stolen, or misplaced money. Would it be some fraction of the whole? Or would it be some capped dollar amount?

I bet it would never look like over 10% or over $63 billion of the $630 billion allotted. But NBC News has found that this may even be a lowball estimate for the degree of waste, fraud, and abuse of the funds meant to help and protect the citizens of the US.

What business did the government have printing all this money? We do not have this money. This is an I.O.U. written to our kids and their kids to pay back with exorbitant interest.

What business did they have distributing it when they had not put in place measures to ensure its proper use? Thousands of people have been ruined because of the scams that siphoned this money directly from the government. Only the barest fraction of that has been recovered or redirected.

What business do we have allowing our government to treat our futures in what almost appears to be a maliciously shortsighted manner?

Remember why we are advocating for the Convention of States. Remind your representative of the governments fiduciary responsibilities with our money.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
