As Israel’s war on the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas heats up in Gaza, President Joe Biden is raising a few eyebrows as he committed a generous $100,000 in taxpayers' money to a surprising cause in Palestine.
“Free to Run” is a human rights and gender equality organization committed to “improving the mental health of 200 adolescent girls and young women in Palestine through weekly running and wellness sessions."
According to its website, “Our work exists at the places where it’s most challenging to be assigned female at birth, in places where few others dare to work. We exist where our work is most acutely relevant and has the greatest impact. We focus on segments of the population that experience deep, intersectional discrimination based on gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, and/or migration/displacement.”
In 2022, Free to Run received over $50,000 from the U.S. State Department, and in 2023, that amount close to doubled, The Washington Examiner uncovered. However, after the vicious Hamas-led terrorist attacks on October 7, federal spending in the Gaza Strip has come under increased scrutiny, with credible reports that the money may be appropriated by terrorists.

Previously, President Donald Trump canceled all U.S. aid to the region due to these concerns. But when Biden took office, he quickly ramped annual funding back up to over $300 million, brushing aside his own administration’s concerns that such funding might be used to sponsor terrorist activity.
“We assess there is a high risk Hamas could potentially derive indirect, unintentional benefit from U.S. assistance to Gaza,” the State Department admitted. Even Secretary of State Antony Blinken confessed “there are no guarantees … that this assistance reaches the people who need it the most.”
"Why are we investing American tax dollars toward a running program halfway across the world when we have so many issues that need fixing here at home?" asked Rep. Tim Burchett, one of several lawmakers raising awareness about the issue. Another noted that “these things frustrate … the American people.”
Certainly, as Americans grapple with financial challenges exacerbated by inflation, many are now questioning the government's substantial contributions to causes perceived as "woke" and discretionary. Regrettably, it appears that Washington remains indifferent to the will of the people, careening forward toward a potential financial implosion. The irony is not lost on many – while facing domestic economic hardships, the government continues to allocate resources to causes abroad, such as supporting female runners in Palestine.
