This week our team in North Carolina secured a big victory -- the state House Rules Committee passed the Convention of States Resolution by a voice vote.
That means the support was so overwhelming that they didn't even need to take a roll call vote. They knew it would pass, and now the full House is expected to hear our Resolution soon.
The committee room was absolutely packed with volunteers, and we wanted to give you the full, on-the ground story.
April 21st started with a buzz in the air. It was only 8 AM and the festivities would not begin for two hours, but an army of volunteers was already there. They were setting up the tables and the stage, where soon the largest rally in COS North Carolina history would soon take place.
Three-hundred COS Tee shirts, which were purchased by the NC leadership team, adorned the sign-in tables and would be handed out to all the rally attendees. These T-shirts would form part of a powerful statement during a Rules Committee vote later that day.
Soon, over 200 concerned patriots from all across North Carolina arrived to hear a message of hope and to meet with their legislators. They were treated to passionate personal stories from grassroots leaders, encouragement from our prime sponsor Rep. Dennis Riddell, and of course an amazing and powerful speech by Mark Meckler.
At the conclusion of the rally, the COS Resolution (HJR 233) would be debated and voted on in the NC House Rules Committee. Going into the committee, there was no guarantee of success.
The committee room was packed by only a small portion of COS supporters in the building that day, all wearing those bright white T-shirts with the COS logo. There was no doubt in the legislators’ minds who these people were--the COS logo stood out like a neon sign.
As the meeting began to start, there was an even more audible noise. It was then that they pulled back the curtains in the committee room. Out in the foyer area was another sea of COS supports. Over 150 patriots “looking in” on the committee members. The legislators were stunned.
The legislators were visibly whispering to one another and pointing out at all of the COS support. Originally, HJR 233 was 3rd on the agenda; however, they decided to hear it first.
After a series of powerful testimonies from COS volunteers and supporters, the committee had heard enough: clearly, their constituents wanted them to pass the Resolution, and they didn't even feel the need to take a roll call vote.
The Resolution passed on a voice vote, and the committee room erupted in cheers.
This is a great win for our team in North Carolina, but their work isn't done yet. The next hurdle is the full House, where we expect to be heard soon.
