Awards Presentations at the COS Virginia Leadership Conference

Published in Blog on June 11, 2024 by Nancy Elizabeth Koenig

The recent COS Virginia Leadership Conference in Charlottesville was attended by 46 state leaders representing all 12 regions of Virginia.

After the summit began with prayer, awards were presented.

Josephine Gilbert received the Patriot Pin.

Beverly Jones  won Volunteer of the Year. Working industriously to advance Convention of States, Beverly contacts new petition signers, organizes petition collecting events, block walks, and organizes meetings with legislators of both parties.

The three past state directors were awarded silver dollars commemorating the Constitution's bicentennial, 1787-1987.

Chris Walker the persuader: (2017-19) no one could resist becoming a volunteer when approached by him.

Dennis Denton the Stepper-Upper: (2019-20) when Chris wanted to focus on Legislative tasks.

John Dahmen the Encourager: (2022-24) the one who came to the rescue within a month of retiring from his full time job.

After Al Torres called for them to line up in order of service, it was noted that the next state director would need to be over 6’4” since each successive state director had gotten taller.

The shorter members of the team joked that the height requirement left them out of the running for state director.

The numerous workshops for district captain training were well received.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
