The truckers are coming to Washington, D.C.
The Freedom Convoy in Canada is headed stateside at the same time as the People's Convoy begins making its way from California to D.C.
Both groups are protesting the tyranny of large national governments who try to control the daily decisions of their citizenry.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau cracked down on the truckers in his country by declaring a "national emergency," freezing bank accounts, beating truckers and other protesters, and targeting businesses that helped the truckers. It's been a shocking display of tyranny just across our northern border in a country that supposedly values freedom and civil liberties.
Now, the question is, will President Joe Biden follow Trudeau's lead?
Initial signs aren't good. The president has already requested that fencing be installed around the capitol in preparation for Biden's state of the union address. The truckers will likely have arrived in D.C. by then, and the president is making clear that he will not support these peaceful, constitutionally protected protests.
Will he declare a state of emergency and crack down on protesters like Trudeau did? It's unclear if he'll take this additional step, but it's certainly possible. Biden has shown a willingness to impose unconstitutional mandates and executive orders, and no one knows how he'll react to thousands of semi-trucks parked in his back yard.
Wouldn't it be nice if the American people didn't have to worry about the president pulling the plug on constitutionally protected peaceful protest? That's a real concern right now, but it won't be after we call the first-ever Article V Convention of States.
A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states, not the president, and can propose constitutional amendments that limit the size and power of the federal government.
These amendments can restrict federal power by limiting the topics on which Washington can legislate. They can also restrict the federal budget and limit the terms of office for federal officials.
With this complete package of amendments in place, the president will be forced back into his constitutional box. He'll be reminded that We the People control the future of our country, and we'll fight peacefully to protect the freedoms and liberties enshrined in our founding document.
The president has too much power. This power makes it too easy for him to impose tyranny. If we want to eliminate the threat of tyranny, we have to restrict the president's power. Article V gives us the power to do that -- we just have to use it.
