Mark Twain is said to have popularized the quip "There are lies, damned lies, and statistics".
For those of us who are working to call an Article V convention, "There are lies, damned lies, and stories about a runaway convention."
Sometimes explaining the Article V process and answering objections, myths, and straight-up lies from opponents about an Article V convention and even the origin of the Constitution itself can seem daunting and complicated.
Beginning tomorrow on Constitution Day, that process will be much easier thanks to a new video series that features the words and arguments of some of the most respected constitutional scholars in the United States.
This dynamic twelve-week series, produced by COSA Video Production Director Garrett Humbertson, begins at 5:00 p.m. ET on September 17 and runs through December 3.
It promises to be a terrific resource for the COS grassroots army.
In the first episode, the video version of law professor, attorney, and COSA co-founder and senior advisor Michael Farris's essay "Can We Trust the Constitution?" repudiates a slander of the work of the Framers during the Constitutional Convention at Philadelphia in 1787. It addresses the canard about a "runaway convention" that COS opponents recite nearly as often as they breathe.
The Article V Scholar Series will feature easy-to-follow essays by renowned scholars of the highest caliber such as Farris, Robert G. Natelson, and many others who have written scholarly pieces about Article V, the Constitutional Convention, the Necessary and Proper Clause, and the history of attempts to amend the Constitution. Some of the authors featured in the series have argued before the Supreme Court and/or had their words cited by justices of the Supreme Court.
Each video lasts between five and eight minutes and is perfect for sharing with legislators, fellow volunteers, and people who are new to the movement or interested in joining. This series will rapidly help you become even more of an expert about Article V in particular and the Constitution in general.
Be sure to check in on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. ET beginning tomorrow, September 17, to watch the Article V Scholar Series and arm yourself to advance the call for an Article V convention! You can also watch on various COS socials including X, Facebook, Rumble, etc.
