The Convention of States Arizona team set up a booth at the 2021 American Legion National Convention in Phoenix. This marked the first time Convention of States had a presence at the National Convention.
Up until 2021 Convention of States had only been present at state conventions.
This was the first event for new Arizona Event Coordinator David Wardle, but he took it in stride working through the paperwork details of both American Legion and Convention of States organizations.
COS District Captains, the Legislative Liaison, and the Grassroots Coordinator all volunteered for booth duty, and some drove more than 100 miles to Phoenix.
After the event the team had a debrief session to better understand what went right, what didn't, and how to smooth out the process for the next big event.
One surprising result was how few Arizona veterans came by the booth. Most of them were from out of town or out of state.
One of the Arizona veterans that came to the booth was Jack Holder, the last surviving Pearl Harbor veteran. Jack asked a lot of questions and signed the petition.
The Arizona team is proud of the results of their efforts and expect to be able to build on this team effort to enhance outreach to veterans by Convention of States.
