How long has it been since you've read the Declaration of Independence?
It's one of the world's most famous documents, and yet many Americans don't take the time to sit down and read it.
That's why the Convention of States Florida team put together the video below. It's a slightly abridged version of the Declaration, and it demonstrates just how much the federal government today sounds like the tyrannical British monarchy in 1776.
- "[The King] has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of … importance…" Check.
- "He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone…" Check.
- "He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance…" Check.
We're facing many of the same abuses of power the colonists faced over 200 years ago. Fortunately, we don't have to revolt -- the Framers of the Constitution knew this might happen, and they gave us a way to fight back peacefully, legally, and effectively.
Article V of the Constitution empowers the states and the people to propose amendments to the U.S. Constitution. These amendments can address many of the tyrannical (and unconstitutional) laws, regulations, and rulings Washington has tried to hand down in the last 100 years.
We can restore the power of the states and the people to make decisions for themselves, get the feds out of healthcare, shrink the size of federal bureaucracies, and overturn bad Supreme Court decisions.
If the Founders could have used the Convention of States option in 1776, they wouldn't have had to fight a bloody revolution for their freedom. Let's use the tool these men gave us. Let's call a Convention of States.
