ALICIA: We need a balanced budget not only in our households, but also in our government

Published in Blog on February 26, 2021 by Article V Patriot

Alicia has dedicated her life to the service of her country and her community. She's served in the Montana Army National Guard for 27 years. She's a wife, a mom, and a physician's assistant. She has an emergency medicine background and owns a small clinic in Great Falls, Montana.

She spoke recently in front of a Montana legislative committee because she believes the country she's sacrificed for is slipping away. Overbearing regulations and an increasing national debt are threatening the freedom and stability of future generations, and she believes a Convention of States is the best solution.

Alicia has demonstrated great responsibility and a commitment to duty in her personal life. She wants Congress to do the same by balancing the federal budget and following the Constitution-as-written.

Unfortunately, Congress has shown no willingness to be guided by the limited-government principles on which our nation was founded. They refuse to spend within our country's means, and the Supreme Court has given them unlimited power to legislate on virtually any issue.

That's why we need a Convention of States. Called under Article V of the Constitution, a Convention of States can propose constitutional amendments that get our nation back on track. These amendments can force Congress to balance the budget, impose term limits on federal officials, and limit the power of Washington as a whole.

It's the solution Alicia believes we must pursue, and it's the solution our Founders unanimously agreed upon. To join like-minded patriots in your state, sign the petition below!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
