A quarter of the town showed up for freedom

Published in Blog on February 22, 2021 by Rodney Charles Geil

Convention of States Action Co-Founder Michael Farris once coined the phrase "Stand up, speak up, show up"

It takes complaining about things to a whole new level. When one-fourth of a town does just that, it is definitely a sign!

Not only do people know what's wrong with the way our country is going, but they want to do something about it.

Convention of States Wyoming's Veterans Coalition Director Vance McGahey was asked to put on another town hall in the west-central side of Wyoming. LaBarge's population is just over 400, after trimming down from a robust (and crowded) 551 during the oil boom in 2010.

When the meeting was being planned at first, the thought was to have it in the local tavern called the Eagle Bar & Grill. It holds a good crowd, but entrepreneur Mike Denison suggested that holding it in the city hall might draw a wider audience.

For the good of the town, he was willing to give up some potential revenue.

So on February 9, about 115 patriots showed up. Ninety minutes of good conversation, videos, and Q&A unfolded. Lots of petitions were signed, and many volunteers were recruited. This is We the People in action.

As a personal note, I was working in LaBarge when 9/11 happened. In fact, I was on my 10-minute walk to work when it happened. We were struck as to how this could happen. Our lives changed from that day on. Now we know we have a new foe attacking our Constitution every day.

It is up to us to use the Founders' fix to provide the solution.

This is how.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
