Col. Mason,
This is just a note to let you know that the process in Article V of the Constitution that you proposed and championed will have to be used after two centuries.
You said all along that you believed the state legislatures--at the behest and requirement of the people--would have to use this provision bypassing Congress as men grew greedy, rich, elitist, and more like royalty than servants of the people.
I don’t know if you expected it to take this long for the Article V convention process to be used, knowing men and power as you did.
But we are there now. The people of the United States have worked hard, and our nation has grown large, rich, and powerful. She is very important in this world of ours.
Other countries are trying to take our wealth, demean us, and reduce our influence. Some things never change, human nature being as it is.
Just to let you know, the Congress has grown lazy except in their quest for power and prestige. They pass laws, then allow unelected bureaucrats to write rules for those laws.
Thus, Col. Mason, you can see that the true power is now in the hands of unelected officials and career politicians, who do not share the dream or promise of our republic.
As it stands today we have 15 states (there are 50 states now) that have obligated themselves to an Article V Convention of States, and the people continue to work towards having the required 34 states to implement your plan.
We have looked to the leaders of the past in order to preserve our future. This is a difficult task (as you designed it to be), but one that those who love our republic toil at with glad and determined hearts.
Thank you again for Article V--the last, best hope for saving the republic.
Signed gratefully,
We the People
