The years leading up to the presidential election of 1980 were quite tumultuous. America was weak. We had lost our mojo.
With inflation and interest rates at all time highs, stagflation was destroying the American dream.
While American’s had experienced gas rationing in the past, waiting for hours on line at the fuel station on odd or even days was getting quite old.
And of course, there was the embarrassment of Iran having taken American hostages and the humiliation of America’s failed attempt to rescue them.
It was against this backdrop that a young middle school student first gained an interest in politics.
Given the circumstances of those times it was no wonder that this young student gravitated towards the conservative message of Ronald Reagan. And why not.
Reagan refused to accept the mantra that the sun was setting on America.
He refused to accept that things could not get better.
And most importantly, he had a plan to revive America by getting government out of our lives and by letting freedom work its magic and raise America back to that ‘shining city on the hill’.
They say history repeats itself.
One look at our world today provides all the evidence needed to demonstrate that this is true.
The difference today is that we have one political party that hates America and another that views America as something to pilfer.
As our young student aged, he lost sight of the need to judge our elected officials by what they did vs. what they said.
Thankfully, our young student, now an older experienced adult, woke up.
Reflecting on the leaders in the White House and Congress since the days of Ronald Reagan it became evident that these people didn’t possess the love for America or its people of a Reagan.
With much introspection it also became clear that the actions of these politicians were less about doing what was in America’s best interest and primarily about doing what was best for themselves.
And this brings us to today, where the American people are represented by a Uniparty that views America as something to profit from, themselves as masterminds, and the people as lemmings who should work themselves to death, pay their taxes, send their children to fight their wars and shut up.
That young man, now an enlightened adult is me.
And this is why I support Convention of States.
I thank God for our Founders, and in particular, George Mason who had the foresight to realize that a day would come where the federal government would stray from its enumerated powers.
I’m thankful that with his insistence our Founders left a remedy in the Constitution to deal with this very issue by providing the several states an ability to call for constitutional amendments to resolve these problems.
And ultimately, I am thankful that the young man who was once in the dark has had his eyes opened and can now have his voice heard in the hope of contributing to the emancipation of the American people from what has become a tyrannical government.
