Eight immigrants with suspected ties to the terrorist group ISIS were apprehended by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in New York, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles over the weekend, heightening concerns about a potential terrorist attack within the United States.
The eight men, who entered the country illegally via the southern border, arrived from Tajikistan. Notably, FBI Director Christopher Wray recently warned lawmakers that the United States is at an increased risk of an attack on American soil following the recent terrorist attack in Moscow, carried out by ISIS members from Tajikistan.
Multiple sources confirm that after the men entered the country, the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force became aware of a potential terrorist threat and identified the migrants as possible suspects. Carefully monitoring their activities for several months, the FBI eventually urged ICE to arrest the men on immigration charges due to their ties to terrorism. One source claims that during an FBI-wiretapped conversation, one of the men spoke about bombs, leading to concerns that “something like” the Boston Marathon bombing “might happen again.”
“Our most immediate concern has been that individuals or small groups will draw twisted inspiration from the events in the Middle East to carry out attacks here at home,” Wray informed Congress in April. “But now, increasingly concerning is the potential for a coordinated attack here in the homeland, akin to the ISIS-K attack we saw at the Russia concert hall a couple weeks ago.”
“As I look back over my career in law enforcement, I’d be hard-pressed to think of a time where so many threats to our public safety and national security were so elevated all at once,” he added. “But that is the case as I sit here today. This is not a point when we can let up.”
Despite these concerns, no one in the intelligence community or federal government appears willing to shore up our single greatest vulnerability: the southern border. Over 10 million illegal aliens have crossed the border under the current administration, prompting concerns about the number of terrorists who may have entered the country.
Our unsecured border stands as an open invitation for the enemies of the United States to wreak havoc on our nation. At a time when threats of terrorism are at a record high, we must force the federal government to close the border and permanently end this crisis.
Although Congress and the president are unresponsive to the demands of the states, we can wrest back control when we call an Article V convention. Sign the Convention of States petition below to join us in our mission to end federal overreach, corruption, and irresponsibility.
