2023 in Review pt. 2 — Top 5 Media Moments

Published in Blog on December 28, 2023 by Jakob Fay

It’s simply impossible to recapture the breadth of Convention of States’ 2024 media impact in a single blog post. As the fight for the country heats up and calls for a convention intensify, COS took the media by storm, propelling Article V into the mainstream. While everyone from Mark Levin to Ron DeSantis to Chip Roy and many more were talking about our grassroots-driven solution this year, five moments stand out above the rest.

5. Mark Meckler on the final episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight

Convention of States Founder and President Mark Meckler unexpectedly made history when he appeared on the final episode of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on April 21 to promote the then-upcoming Texas border rally in Austin, Texas. Unbeknownst to either man, that would mark Tucker’s final live appearance on Fox News, which dropped the popular host three days later.

4. Pete Hegseth on Gutfield!

Longtime Convention of States proponent and endorser Pete Hegseth made the most of an appearance on the new King of Late Night’s hit comedy show, “Gutfeld!,” to promote the grassroots movement to call an Article V convention.

“Thankfully, there is something called Convention of States, Article V, in our Constitution,” he told comedian Greg Gutfeld. “It’s gathering momentum.”

3. Dennis Prager answers question about Convention of States

When Emerging Leaders Program intern Catie asked PragerU founder and talk show host Dennis Prager about Convention of States, he offered a thoughtful, positive answer, praising Catie as “exceptional” for her level of knowledge about the Constitution. He then laid out several ways in which a convention could help restore proper constitutional governance to America.

2. Politico Mike Johnson hit piece

While hit pieces are intended to be a bad thing, most end up accurately describing the Article V process (more or less) and boosting our mainstream profile. “Inside Mike Johnson’s Ties to a Far-Right Movement to Gut the Constitution” was one such hit piece, courtesy of Politico. Clocking in at over 3,000 words, the lengthy report bashed the new speaker of the House for supporting Convention of States (as if that’s a bad thing) but only made us love him more.

1. Mark Meckler on Tucker Carlson Today

Back before “Tucker on X,” there was “Tucker Carlson Today,” where he hosted “unfiltered, unafraid, and unstoppable interviews and discussions” with many of America’s most important thought leaders, including Mark Meckler.

“We’re in it to save the Republic,” Mark described in the long-form interview covering a wide range of topics, including, most prominently, how the COS grassroots army is engaged in the fight to preserve the country.

“This is the army, in my opinion, that saves America,” he proudly declared.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
