Bitter political revivals, including former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, came together the morning after Tuesday night’s heated presidential debate to commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks at a ceremony in New York. The two candidates, who had never met each other before the debate, shook hands for the second time in 12 hours.
President Joe Biden, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator J.D. Vance, Michael Bloomberg, Bill de Blasio, Rudy Guiliani, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and Trump’s sons, Eric and Don Jr., were also in attendance. Bloomberg, the former New York City major who ran for president in 2020, stood between Biden and Harris and Trump and Vance.

The ceremony honored the nearly 3,000 Americans who were killed twenty-three years ago with moments of silence at the times when the North Tower was struck, the South Tower was hit, the Pentagon was attacked, the South Tower collapsed, Flight 93 crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, and the North Tower fell, respectively.

Watching America’s most divided politicians stand together in remembrance of one the most horrific dates in American history was a rare showing of something both parties frequently talk about — embracing the moniker American over Republican or Democrat. 9/11 memorial services are not just for the Right or the Left. They are for all Americans. Trump, Biden, Harris, and Vance proved that today.
Unfortunately, that unifying message was sorely lacking in last night’s debate, which was plagued by fierce bickering, petty insults, and shallow sparring.
If there’s one thing Americans must always agree on, it’s that when our country is under attack, we ought to set aside our differences and stand together in the face of evil. Secondly, polling shows that a bipartisan majority of Americans across various demographics agree that we should use Article V of the Constitution to rein in the federal government and return power to the people.

The acrimony and disunity in Washington prove that federal politicians cannot truly fix our country’s problems. While we applaud today’s show of togetherness, we know it ultimately won’t change anything. What America needs is for “We the People” to unite in support of the Article V movement to save liberty in America.
