The Convention of States Project released a new video, produced in collaboration with PragerU, which invites millennials to help fix our broken federal government through the Article V process of the Constitution. Convention of States will be working with young conservative leaders Ben Shapiro and Charlie Kirk to circulate the video to their base of young activists.
“The Founding Fathers gave us a foolproof way to rein in an over-reaching federal government in Article V. If young conservatives want to take back our country, they will join me in supporting the Convention of States Project,” said Kirk, Founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, the largest conservative campus movement in the country. “A convention of states is the only constitutional way to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and anyone who wants to give power back to the people will support this growing movement.”
The enormously influential social media presence of both Kirk and Shapiro, as well as their dynamic speaking engagements on campuses around the country, will be instrumental in introducing young activists to the Convention of States.
“I absolutely support the Convention of States Project, designed for fulfilling the Constitutional methodologies for protecting our rights,” said Shapiro, Editor of the Daily Wire and popular campus speaker. “Article V exists so that the people have the final say, not the federal government. If you believe the people should decide instead of politicians in Washington, D.C. then you should support the Convention of States Project.”
Recognizing there is no generation more keenly aware of the burden of massive debt, unbridled spending, and the strong arm of federal bureaucracy than millennials, the Convention of States Project hopes to increase its large grassroots movement of three million activists by garnering the support of young activists.
“Millennials are waking up and realizing the state of the country they will inherit,” said Mark Meckler, President, Citizens for Self-Governance and the Convention of States Project. “They are realizing the importance of restoring the Constitution and returning the power to the people. Americans are frustrated with Washington and are tired of both political parties refusing to enact real reforms that benefit everyone. Millennials are joining the movement because just like us, they believe they should decide.”
Nineteen states have passed identical Convention of States resolutions calling for fiscal restraint, limited federal government, and term limits on federal officials and members of Congress. Endorsers of the Convention of States include Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Dr. Ben Carson, Senators Marco Rubio and Ron Johnson, former U.S. Senators Tom Coburn and Jim DeMint, U.S. Representative Jeff Duncan, Governor Greg Abbott, Sheriff David Clarke, former governors Jeb Bush, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, and Bobby Jindal, former congressman Col. Allen West, and economist Thomas Sowell.
