Annual Sportsman Festival

On Saturday, November 13th, Region 6 had a booth at the 28th Annual Sportsman Festival in Warrenton, Georgia. We had a good location with lots of traffic. We handed out information about COS and received 12 signed petitions and 1 volunteer.

Baxley Pigs & Pickin' Festival

On Friday, November 12th, and Saturday, November 13th, Region 1 had a booth at the Baxley “Pigs & Pickin’ Festival." This local favorite features concerts, dance performances, and even hot air balloon rides. Throughout the day, announcements for hourly "Chicken races" were heard, and the event also featured a "Backyard BBQ" competition.

Sharon Fuhrman and Blake Edwards met with dozens of interested festival attendees and secured 27 signed petitions as well as three new volunteers. Many other people stopped throughout the day after reading information banners and took home information cards. There was a lot of support expressed for the COS movement at the event.

Pigs & Pickin’ is one of the last events for 2021, but Region 1 plans to represent Convention of States in dozens of similar events throughout 2022.

Kingsland Catfish Festival

The Kingsland Catfish Festival was held on Saturday, November 20th, and Region 1 had a booth there. It was a cold, windy, overcast day, but that did not suppress attendance. Don Gardner and Ana Vergara came prepared to make phone calls to In-Progress petition signers in the FUT and LMT during what they anticipated would be light booth traffic, but the traffic at the booth was steady throughout the day. In addition to COS activities, Don was asked to provide Patriot Academy classes and make presentations to a political organization. Don and Ana gathered 38 signed petitions and counted it as a good event for planting seeds to grow and harvest in the future.

Volunteer Spotlight

It’s my great pleasure to introduce Blake Edwards to those of you who have not met him. Blake joined our Region 1 team on September 21, 2021. My first contact with him was when he contacted me to tell me that he had investigated COS, signed our petition, completed his Volunteer Agreement, and was ready to start on his COSU courses. WOW! Don’t we all wish there were more people this determined?

Blake presented a clear idea of the skills and experience he could bring to
Convention of States from the very beginning. He has continued to be an invaluable asset to HD 178 and to Region 1, supporting his team and working with various forms of media.

Blake is consistent in his efforts to grow our Convention of States base by bringing in petition signers and volunteers on a regular basis. In late October, just a month after he became active, Blake hosted a COS meeting in his hometown. It was the first such meeting to be held in that town. He secured a great location, did all the advertising, prepared a remarkable presentation and executed the event with exceptional professionalism. It was a great success.

Blake brings a variety of skills to our State. He is a Worship Leader at his church in Blackshear, GA, has experience in Event Coordination, and is well versed in media including photography and videography. Blake's also an excellent writer. He has written several articles for publication within the COS community, one of which was published nationally. It is truly an honor to have such a great Patriot on my team. Please join me in congratulating Blake and welcoming him to our COS Team.

Violation of 6th Amendment?

The 6th Amendment guarantees these rights: The right to a speedy trial so that the defense is not weakened, anxiety is not prolonged, and disruption of a normal life is minimized. The right of a public trial so that friends and relatives can attend. The right to a jury that is fair. The right to know what he or she is accused of. The right to be present at the trial and question witnesses against him or her. The right to have witnesses testify for his or her benefit. The right to testify in his or her defense. The right to have a lawyer.

All U.S. citizens, regardless of race, religion, sex, political party, etc., are entitled to their rights. Georgia Congresswoman, Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG), has been petitioning for the rights of the January 6th (J6) defendants still imprisoned. After watching this video, do you think their 6th Amendment rights are being violated?

In the last issue, we provided you a link to MTG's interview of Julie Kelly on the treatment of these J6 defendants. Here's the link again in case you missed it.

Become involved in Convention of States to more effectively oppose government intrusion. Every effort big or small makes a difference.

Physicians for COS

The diagnosis is clear.

We have a growing cancer today known as the Obamacare. As a result physicians are no longer free to practice medicine.

No profession feels the full force of the federal government more than physicians. The medical profession is the most highly regulated profession in the United States. The practice of medicine is controlled, taxed, and regulated to the point of being destroyed by the heavy hand of the federal government.

Physicians are told how to bill, how much to charge, and how to treat patients. They are mandated to use expensive electronic medical records. The federally enacted HIPPA (Health Information Privacy and Portability Act) makes the communication between physicians and atients burdensome, inefficient, and expensive. Every physician is required by federal mandate to register with the government to obtain an NPI (national provider identifier.) We are required by federal law to obtain and pay for a license to prescribe medication through the DEA, which is separate from our state licensure.

This heavy hand of government not only oversees the largest federal health bureaucracy ever created, but by extension reaches into every state, every city, and every small town to regulate how every licensed physician practices the art of medicine and how citizens obtain care.

The treatment is also clear.

The prescription for a cure was written into our constitution by our founders. Article V of our constitution allows for the states to call for a convention of states to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government through the proposal of constitutional amendments. Physicians should be the strongest supporters of this brilliantly-crafted states’ rights tool placed into our constitution by our founders.

I urge my fellow American physicians to join with me in supporting an Article V Convention of States to take back control of the practice of medicine. It’s the only way that we can return the practice of medicine back to the intimate relationship between a doctor and patient without interference by the heavy hand of a distant, national government.
