With less than 14 days until Election Day, Harris and Trump hit the swing states

Published in Blog on October 23, 2024 by Jakob Fay

Early voting is underway in more than half of U.S. states as Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump enter their final sprints to the White House.

With less than two weeks until Election Day, both candidates are focusing heavily on the seven most competitive states: Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Georgia. According to CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten, these battleground states make this the election with the closest polls in at least 50 years.

Where will Harris and Trump be campaigning this week?

In Pennsylvania, where the former president currently leads by 0.3 points,* Trump worked at a local McDonalds on Sunday. Trump has visited the state 15 times this year. Harris will hold an event this upcoming Sunday, marking her 20th trip. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is also scheduled to rally in Philadelphia on Friday.

In Nevada, Harris has a 0.3-point lead even as both candidates spar for Latino voters. While 59% plan to vote for Harris, Hispanic support for Democrats has been shrinking since 2012, when former President Barack Obama won the state with 71% of the Latino vote. Obama appeared in Las Vegas over the weekend on behalf of the Harris campaign. Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, Trump, and Walz will speak to Nevada voters on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, respectively.

In Arizona, where the vice president trails Trump by 2 points, the Harris campaign has booked a lineup of presidents, including former President Bill Clinton, Obama, and President Biden, to bolster support. Both running mates will also appear in the state, with Vance slated for two events on Tuesday and Walz for a rally on Saturday.

In Michigan, Trump seeks to cut Harris’s narrow 0.1-point advantage with two weekend rallies in the blue wall state. Harris has recruited help from former First Lady Michelle Obama to replicate Biden’s 2020 victory in the state. The two will appear together on Saturday, the first day of early voting, marking Harris’s third visit to the state in over a week. Walz, who spoke to a Michigan church on Sunday, made the case for Christians to vote for Harris. “A lot of this is golden rule stuff,” he said. “Do unto others – you know the one.” Vance is slated for an event on Thursday. Previously, he joked that he would be in the state “probably every week” before the election.

In Wisconsin, another blue wall state, Harris is favored to win by 0.4 points. Walz and Obama teamed up for an event on Tuesday, following Harris the night before. The vice president was joined on stage by former Republican Representative Liz Cheney, who targeted undecided Nikki Haley supporters with a message of “country over party.” The Trump team has reportedly considered sending Haley to the state to boost support among female voters. On Monday, Vance countered Walz’s church event with his own message of faith: “Jesus is King,” he said to raucous applause in Waukesha.

In North Carolina, Trump enjoys a 1-point lead, even as Harris’s campaign admits the storm-battered state appears to be “slipping away.” Launching a two-day tour on Monday, Trump emphasized his on-the-ground response to Hurricane Helene, blasting the federal government for its “poor” relief efforts. Walz will seek to regain lost ground in the state with a three-stop tour on Thursday. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and Harris’s sister, Maya, will make their pitch to voters on Tuesday.

In Georgia, where Trump has carried the lead since early September, Harris rallied with Grammy Award-winning singer Usher on Saturday, celebrated her 60th birthday with Stevie Wonder on Sunday, and is scheduled to share the stage with Bruce Springsteen on Thursday. Trump will hold a faith-based town hall with Lt. Governor Burt Jones and a rally with Turning Point Action and Charlie Kirk on Wednesday.

As we enter the final stretch of what promises to be a neck-to-neck race, it’s vital that every American vote — and vote early! — to ensure that the next president of the United States truly reflects the will of the people.
