Wisconsin Convention of States will appear at the 2022 American Legion’s 103rd National Convention. Over 13,000 Legionnaires are expected to attend from August 26-30. The American Legion exhibit hall is located in the Wisconsin Center in the heart of downtown Milwaukee.
Wisconsin Convention of States will host five days of tabling during this event and is summoning volunteers to help work the table during this event.
It takes work to land a big one, and the Convention of States team worked
hard to reel this big one in, consisting of Dan Gumbert, Wisconsin Veteran’s Coalition Director; Dean Jeffery, Wisconsin District Captain; Rodney Huckleberry, National Veteran’s Director; Patty Grant, National Grassroots Coordinator; and Mike Ruthenberg, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. As John Maxwell has said, “teamwork makes the dream work.”
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veteran’s organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest and most respected veterans service organization.
Its mission is to advocate for patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans. American Legion is also committed to mentoring and sponsorship of youth programs in our communities.
The American Legion is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with great political influence perpetuated by its grassroots involvement in the legislative process. Legionnaires’ sense of obligation to their community, state and nation drives an honest advocacy for veterans in Washington.
Those involved in the Article V Convention of States effort will notice a number of synergies between the American Legion and the Article V Convention of States movement. Both organizations are nonprofit, nonpartisan, and patriotic with a grassroots approach to involvement in the legislative process. Also, both organizations are driving honest advocacy
for the local and national community.
Wisconsin Convention of States saw this as a great opportunity to introduce ourselves to Legionnaires as they peruse the exhibit hall, always the center of activities during the national convention. The goal of Wisconsin Convention of States is to not only introduce, but to educate, answer questions, collect signatures and provide information about Convention of States and Article V.
Polling from The Trafalgar Group conducted in July 2022 shows our message and methods are working. Over 65% of Americans agree with and support Convention of States. The question asked was, do you support this statement: "To meet and propose Constitutional Amendments focusing on term limits for Congress and federal officials, federal spending restraints, and limiting the federal government to its constitutionally mandated authority."
That is a BIG number. In the context of an election, 60% of the overall vote is generally considered a landslide election win.
More details will come soon on hosting the American Legion table and how to sign up to work the booth. This is a great opportunity to talk with our great veterans and get the word out about what Convention of States is accomplishing.
Stay tuned, lots happening with Convention of States, both in Wisconsin and nationally.
