National buzz distracts Wisconsin from state and local responsibilities.

Published in Blog on March 21, 2019 by Joel Mitchell

A red fox traipsed along my property line on a chipper Wisconsin afternoon the other day. His arrival evoked several shouts throughout the house along with a healthy array of shoving to the best window view.

Our focus on dinner preparation and homework just didn’t matter anymore. This rare arrival trumped the more important household responsibilities at hand. Then this quote came to mind,

"Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards..."

It’s all about distractions.

The deluge of daily national news, press releases, and tabletop soapboxes out of D.C. preoccupy our thoughts, our frustrations, and our conversations.

Their presumptuous cacophony blathers on and on every single weekday like clockwork, poisoning our local vineyards and distancing us from our homeland and we let them. We tune in that national radio talk show, turn up that critical podcast, turn out that social opinion for the benefit of all humanity, all while we turn our back on the humanity closest to home.

Matters of our state must become our state of mind.

National issues become important only because they shouldn’t be important. Our constitutional framers didn’t structure a country to be dominated from the top. They knew how bloodline dynasties operated throughout history and they wanted nothing to do with it. They empowered state officials to lead on the home front to assume gracious command of our own state of affairs.

What about Wisconsin?

In a few days, on April 2nd, we all cast our votes in the Spring Primary Election. Who’s on your ballot? You know who’s on the national ballot years from now, but how about that backyard ballot days from now? Is a Supreme Court Justice seat important? How about a Court of Appeals Judge? Let’s focus on our state right now.
