WHO Treaty Press Conference

Published in Blog on April 20, 2024 by Julie Sandifer

A press conference dealing with the proposed World Health Organization’s (WHO) pandemic treaty was held outside the US Capitol Thursday, April 18. Speakers dealt with the  administration’s plans to sign away American sovereignty, putting the US into a binding agreement which would set up a global body able to make decisions regarding health during pandemics. However, the treaty would go much further than health issues.

Reggie Littlejohn of the Sovereignty Coalition, which organized the press conference, stated that the unelected WHO governing body, in addition to health issues, could “mandate that the governments of the world surveil and censor their citizens, no doubt through digital IDs which can be used as the basis of a Chinese-style social credit system.”

If the treaty is signed, the WHO would have powers to redistribute US  health-care supplies and funds in order to create equity. Rep. Matt Rosendale (MN) stated that the WHO considers the US as a first world nation and China as a developing nation, qualifying China, the world’s second-largest economy, to receive US dollars and supplies.

Rep. Bob Good (VA) stated,“This is the most important issue that is getting the least amount of attention relative to its importance.” He went on to explain that the governing body created by this proposed treaty could declare such things as poverty, gun violence, and climate, as well as health, as crises.“That is not constitutional,” said Good.

Senator Ron Johnson (WI ) stated that 75% of Americans want US officials to make public health decisions and 64% want the Senate to ratify the proposed treaty. As a result, he authored the “No WHO Pandemic Preparedness Treaty without Senate Approval Act.” He further stated that the text of the treaty was to be made available  4 months in advance of the May 27 signing date. That has not happened.

Rep. Ralph Norman (SC) believes that President Biden does not have 2/3 of the Senate in support of the treaty and so will sign the treaty into law, forcing the American people to abide by its terms. Rep. Norman says the treaty must go through the Senate, or we will be “signing away our birthright.”

Rep. Andy Biggs (AZ) introduced the “WHO Withdrawal Act (HR79)  ending US membership in the WHO, repealing the legislation authorizing our WHO membership, and banning all funds from WHO projects. (Note: Louisiana Senator Thomas Pressly authored SB133, the passage of which would remove Louisiana from the jurisdiction of the WHO.)

Other speakers at the press conference included Rep. Paul Gosar ( AZ), Matt Schlapp - CPAC, Tony Perkins - Family Research Council, and Frank Gaffney - Center for Security Policy.

Rep. Chip Roy (TX) asked the question, “Are we for standing up for Americans, or are we for ceding authority to international bodies to govern us and to shove their progressive, radical, Marxist ideas on the American people?”

The press conference closed with this from Rep. Scott Perry (PA): “As bad as it is in dealing with this government taking away our rights every single day, just  imagine how difficult it’s going to be to drag our rights back away from some international organization of bureaucrats that aren’t even elected, that don’t care about America, don’t care about our Constitution, and don’t care what we think.”
