What are you thankful for?

As our country looks forward to tomorrow’s holiday -- a chance to rest, eat, and spend time with family and friends -- Americans from coast to coast will pause and say thanks for everything they have been given. Some will mention food, rest, and family. Others will reflect on the freedom and prosperity that comes with living in this great nation.

But many others see that freedom slipping away. They see the ever expanding overreach of the federal government, and they see Congress gambling with our future prosperity. As the debt continues to rise, our fiscal stability is threatened--along with our national security. The states, thus far, have been powerless to stop the advance of D.C.’s shadow.

When those Americans pause before the Thanksgiving meal, they will say thanks, but perhaps not for their eroding freedoms. They will say thanks for the wisdom of the Founders. At the Constitutional Convention in 1787, our Founding Fathers unanimously agreed to include in Article V of the Constitution a way for the people -- acting through their state legislatures -- to propose constitutional amendments that halt the abuses of power by the federal government. A Convention of States is the last, best chance to preserve liberty for our children and grandchildren--if we’re thankful for it, it’s time we use it.
