Just last weekend, a Delaware statewide organization called “Patriots for Delaware” had a “Unity Festival” in Milton DE. In preparation for this festival, my Patriots for DE and my Convention of States friends and I began thinking a lot about the need for unity. We need unity not only in Delaware but throughout the country.
My friend who organized the whole festival posted a picture on Facebook last week. It was of a burly guy holding up a sign that read “They want us to HATE each other. Don’t let them win.” This same friend was facing all sorts of nastiness from those who did not want us to “Unify Delaware” and were trying to prevent the festival from happening.
They were not able to! The Festival was last Saturday October 23rd and it was a big success! We had a Convention of States booth there in addition to several other political organizations and candidates’ booths. Our fearless COS leader in Delaware, Ginny Watkins, spent much of the day “networking” with these other groups and encouraging what else but UNITY! She even arranged to speak about COS to one of the other groups at their next meeting.
We have a tendency to split up into different groups who have different priorities and then become competitive with one another rather than working together to achieve our common purpose. This allows our opponents to win. Instead, we need to work together to move toward our common goal of reigning in our government both here in Delaware and across the country.
Whether in Delaware or in Washington D.C., we need to limit the power and spending of our government as well as the term lengths of those in power. These are goals we can all agree upon.
The only way they can be accomplished in the United States is through an Article V Convention of States.
