“Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.” - Thomas Paine
On Tuesday, the South Dakota legislature had the opportunity to become the 20th state to pass the Convention of States resolution. Although lawmakers had previously passed our resolution in the Senate State Affairs Committee, Senate, and House State Affairs Committee, the measure ultimately fell short in the House.
Despite this setback, we remain proud of the South Dakota grassroots and applaud their tireless activism. We take heart from the words of Thomas Paine, who reminded us that the fight for liberty, though challenging, is always worth the effort.
Additionally, we embrace John Quincy Adams’ famous persuasion: “Duty is ours, results are God’s.” Eventually, when the time is right — when God sees fit — we know our victory will be all the more glorious!
“It’s time for us to use Article V power,” said Sponsor Rep. Leslie Heinemann. “History will remember us one way or another. We will either be remembered as the generation that finally succumbed completely to federal tyranny or the generation that stood and defended the torch of liberty when it was flickering dangerously low.”
We send our deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the COS grassroots in the Mount Rushmore State. May God bless you for your dedicated service to the great cause of liberty.
Onward to victory!
