The Constitution is not a document to govern the people– it is a document to govern the government. Yet the government seems dangerously unaware of this truth. Using Article V to restrain federal overreach is imperative to retaining our beloved republic.
Through all of my meetings with COS volunteers, I cannot say there is a "typical volunteer." They are black and white, old and young, rich and poor. The single commonality amongst these volunteers is that each has a deeply personal reason for getting involved.
Some have escaped communism, Marxism, and other repressive governments. They escaped to America, only to see the same despotism beginning in what was meant to be their shining beacon on a hill. They are ready to fight for the Constitution.
Others have children or grandchildren who should not be left responsible for the nation's crushing debt. Rampant federal overreach cripples our economy as our government sends foreign aid to countries that despise us, effectively trapping our future generations into servitude. These moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, are ready to fight for the Constitution.
Many volunteers have served in the military, both abroad and here at home, to protect the rights ascribed to us in the Constitution. They too, are ready to fight.
Our fight is not with weapons of war, not with malice or contempt. Our war is of ideas. Our battlefield is all around us: in the grocery store, the park, even in church. Our allies are all around us too– the variety of fellow COS volunteers who make the fight possible.
