Volunteer Action Reports Are an Essential Activity for Everyone

Published in Blog on December 10, 2021 by Christine J Baker

Are you aware that as a volunteer for the Convention of States, one of your key responsibilities is to log your volunteer hours and activities on a regular basis?

There are several critical reasons to track your time and activities.

Match Grants - Match grants are grants where an organization can get funds for every hour that someone in the community volunteers. For example, if a person volunteers for 1 hour, a company will grant them $25 for each hour completed. In this situation, you can see why every hour logged is so critical.

Reports - Donors, community leaders, and people in various positions of leadership all want to be able to see the impact COS is having in the community. With an organization - especially a national organization - the only way to do this is to pull reports. Tracking volunteer hours in Citizen Builder is a great way to ensure there are efficient and easily accessible reports.

Donations - You can use these reports to show how hardworking your organization is, and share COS activities with donors. This is a great way to recruit donations from people who are genuinely interested and invested in your organization.

Legal Reasons - Many nonprofit organizations need to have proof of their volunteer programs to be deemed legal as a nonprofit. Depending on the type of nonprofit and the state, this can differ. COS volunteers perform activities with important legal ramifications. Keeping track and reporting on those activities keeps everyone informed.

The bottom line is, the time you spend volunteering in any capacity with the Convention of States is valuable and essential. Please help us continue to positively impact our communities nationwide by regularly logging reports of your activities.

Whether you write a letter to a Congressional representative, man a booth at a community event, take part in a 'Get Out The Vote' campaign, or participate in a COS Action phone tree, you are part of this grassroots movement, and we want to celebrate your contributions.

If you need help knowing how to do this (it is super easy), contact your State Comms Coordinator. They will be happy to help you!
