The Iowa House State Government Committee voted 13-10 on Wednesday to advance House Joint Resolution 6, the COS application for an Article V convention, to the House for a final floor vote.
It was an unusual hearing. After a lengthy, behind-closed-doors caucus, the committee reconvened — only for technological glitches to prevent the COS Live team from tuning in. Despite the faux pas, Senior Vice President for Legislative Affairs Rita Peters and the Regional Director Andrew Lusch were pleased to learn that the committee had passed the measure with overwhelming support.
“The time has come for Iowa to pass this,” reacted Iowa’s Regional Director Catherine Zemanek, urging the state’s residents to contact their legislators. “Get it done.”
Over 56,000 Iowans have signed the COS petition, and the dedicated grassroots team, led by State Director Karen Schuster, has made tremendous progress toward welcoming the Hawkeye State into the COS fold. We look forward to watching additional action in the House soon!
