The Article V Amendment High School Scholarship Competition, sponsored by GW Bridge Academy, is well underway with $1,000 raised so far for the scholarship going to the 1st place winner of the Final Round of Competition to be held in late October at Faith Academy in Marble Falls, Texas.
Donations received before the Final Round will be used to increase the award for 1st place and/or to include 2nd and 3rd place scholarships.
The purpose of this competition is to encourage students to read the United States Constitution, think critically about current problems that may threaten their future lives, liberty and pursuit of happiness in America, and construct and propose an original constitutional amendment.
A “Teacher Distribution” letter has gone out to Texas Educators and School Administrators extending an invitation to high school juniors and seniors to compose an essay to:
- Present a problem with current-day governing action that threatens one of these American founding principles: individual freedom, limited government or the free enterprise system;
- Draft a proposal for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that is an original creation of the student; and
- Explain how your amendment is an effective remedy to your stated problem.
Submissions must be in essay format (300-350 words) and use a specific rubric that can be found along with rules for the competition at GW Bridge Academy.
The deadline for submissions is September 21, 2018, at 11:59pm CST.
The Amendment essays will be scored by a panel of judges, and the top 15 scoring essays will be chosen to advance to the Final Round. The 15 finalists will give a live, in-person, verbal presentation and defense of their essay.
The finalists will need to be present at the Final Round Event held at Faith Academy in Marble Falls, Texas in late October.
If you have an interest in contributing to the prize money, please go to the Young Patriots Scholarship Fund managed by Helping Hands Charitable.
If you know high school teachers in Texas who would be interested in having their juniors and seniors enter the competition, please send them to the GW Bridge Academy website for information on how to be a part of this incredible opportunity.
