What difference, at this point, does it make?

Published in Blog on May 18, 2018 by Susie McCleskey

Remember that phrase? I do! It's the quintessential soundbite representing dysfunctional government unwilling to be accountable to We the People.

Today, I ask the same thing about a completely different subject. What difference does the Convention of States make for our nation, and why am I interested in being a part of it?

I’ve always had my pulse on politics and a keen interest in history. When I heard President Obama say he “had a pen and a phone” and he would go around Congress to do whatever he needed to do to accomplish his agenda, I knew it was time for our country to face the truth that our politicians no longer understand their roles as outlined in the Constitution. Not only that, they have no intention of doing anything about it.

In 2013, Mark Levin published a book called The Liberty Amendments in an effort to address this problem and give solutions. I knew I was on board with the Convention of States once I read that book. We the people must join together to take control of the amendment process because Congress is obviously not going to impose restrictions on itself.

Over the last five years, I’ve become more and more determined to become a part of the movement to have state legislatures address and confront the problems we face as our government officials continue to ignore their roles.

As Ronald Reagan said, “We could say they spend like drunken sailors, but that would be unfair to drunken sailors, because the sailors are spending their own money.” Spending is out of control, politicians hold office for decades, and no one is offering solutions except for the Convention of States.

What difference does it make? It makes all the difference in the world. It’s time to make a difference and become a part of this vital movement.
