The 2024 Texas Republican State Convention is preparing to take place May 23 – 25. Among others, Senate District 1 will have to determine who will hold the State Republican Executive Chairmanship for the next two years.
Two men are vying for the position this year – incumbent Donnie Wisenbaker, and opponent Paul Anthony Hale.
A signer of the petition to call for a Convention of States, Hale said, “I will do everything I can to promote the removal of the COS sunset clause and to see that Texas remains committed to the COS.”
Hale decided to run for SREC after a series of events left him disenchanted with Wisenbaker’s political stance.
In 2022, Cass County GOP voted to censure Senator John Cornyn for voting for the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act on June 24. Hale stated that in a visit to Cass County, Wisenbaker “campaigned” for Cornyn, rather than giving the customary committee report that was expected.
When Wisenbaker also voted against the censuring of Representative Tony Gonzales regarding a border security issue, and Speaker of the House Dade Phelan in February of this year, Hale felt that enough was enough.
Hale stated, “As committeeman I will vote for and bring forth resolutions that are right for We The Republican People of Texas & SD-1. I am not afraid to face controversy and I will show up and be counted for at the meetings, and report to SD-1 in a professional statesman manner. I will not ask people for money while at this duty, or betray the trust of our people.”
Not a novice to the political realm, Hale noted that he has testified on behalf of East Texas industry interests in Austin from 2003 to 2008 and held a seat on the Texas AG Council in Austin as well as served on the Texas Farm Bureau Natural Resources Committee from 2003 to 2008. He also served on the board of directors at the Cass County Farm Bureau from 2008 to 2013, and the Cass County Appraisal Review Board in 2007 and 2008.
In a campaign letter, Hale stated his position on the following issues:
-- FOR securing the southern border, and the US government reimbursing TX for all costs of it.
-- PRO-2nd amendment and for protecting our legal right to personally defend ourselves.
-- AGAINST tax-funded lobbying. AGAINST tax funding any left wing and so called woke causes.
-- PRO-LIFE and for laws that protect our children from the existing evil in our modern world.
-- COMMITTED to all our LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES that our people travel so far to vote on.
Hale continued, “I believe in strengthening protection of free speech through state’s rights, and to give Texans legal recourse against rogue US agencies and woke corporations for stifling such rights.”
“I am not afraid to stand in the face of controversy surrounding these [GOP legislative priorities], as some are critical to sustaining our way of life that our hard-working Christian founders envisioned,” Hale said.
The vote for SREC is scheduled for 8 AM on Friday, May 24, in the Senate District 1 Caucus room at the State Convention in San Antonio.
