The 2018 NRA National Convention was held in Dallas May 3–6. It was the largest convention in the history of the organization with 87,154 in attendance.
Speakers for the event included President Trump and Vice President Pence. Attendees were excited and optimistic about the direction of the country under President Trump’s leadership.
One person stated “After eight years of Obama’s attacks on the Second Amendment and other American values people are feeling optimistic and empowered.”
The diversity of those in attendance was noteworthy. Men, women, children, vets, cowboys, wounded warriors, police, hunters, and businessmen were packed into the huge Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center.
With all the negative press about the NRA in the days leading up to the convention, one would expect to see thousands of protesters. Shockingly only about 100 unenthusiastic protesters were present.
Liberal media coverage focused on the protesters rather than the conventioneers. Based on their reporting one would think the attendance numbers were reversed. Celebrity anti-NRA protest speakers were there with their armed guards.
When approached by the media to comment on the NRA, liberal senators and house members lined up to demand “common sense gun control laws.” Many of these gun control advocates use pork barrel spending to insure their reelection year after year.
Congress members like Leahy (43 years in office), Markley (41 years), Wyden (37 years), Schummer (37 years), and Hoyer (36 years) have lived inside the beltway for so long they have no idea what life is like in the rest of the country. They are only interested in enrichingand empowering themselves.
The Founding Fathers understood that power is seductive. They knew the day might come when Americans might have to take up arms to defend the Constitution from tyrants. In their wisdom they gave us the Second Amendment.
They also knew the time would come when our representatives would use tax revenues to buy their way into power year after year.
To prevent this from happening, they gave us Article V so the people could limit the amount of money the government can spend and limit the number of years a person may serve in the House, Senate, or Judicary.
The time has come. We are 21 trillion dollars in debt. Representatives are staying in office for 30+ years. Each year they become more powerful and out of touch.
We must make a change. We must have a Convention of States.
